Elba Island is the largest island
of the Tuscan and the third largest island in Italy
(223 km ²). Elba Island, together with other islands
of the archipelago (Pianosa, Capraia, Montecristo, Gorgona,
Giglio and Giannutri) is part of the National Park of
the Tuscan Archipelago. Elba Island is divided into
eight municipalities: the main one is Portoferraio,
the others are: Campo nell'Elba, Capoliveri, Marciana,
Marciana Marina, Porto Azzurro, Rio Marina and Rio nell'Elba,
for a total of about 32 000 inhabitants.
For the variety of its coastline (that have a development
of 147 km), for the amenities of beaches, for the majestic
beauty of the Monte Capanne (mt 1019), the island has
rightly become one of the world famous tourist attractions.
The main road network (about 220 km) is completely asphalted.
There are other scenic macadam road for about 60 Km.
